In good writing, words become one with things.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The people who influence us most are not those who buttonhole us and talk to us, but those who live their lives like the stars in heaven and the lilies in the field, perfectly simply and unaffectedly. Those are the lives that mould us. ~Oswald Chambers

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

John Quincy Adams

Well, Aria has just recovered from a cold, and Sarah was hit firmly in the head with the flu yesterday. Which means Aria will get that too. And I will slowly fight it for a week or two and then succumb. Yeesh.

We ate at the Pacific Pearl yesterday. Nice but overpriced. Very good wait staff, very slow kitchen. I got the dish called Evil Jungle Prince Curry just because the name was so cool. The waitress just smiled and nodded when I told her that. I think I've lost my boyish charm at some point along the way. Anyway it was just yellow Thai curry.

Since it hasn't been said on this website, I'll fill in any who don't know; I changed jobs a year ago and now work for the New Mexico BioPark Society as their art director, web designer and IT guy. The pay is no better but the environment is very cool. I get to pet elephants, visit with tigers and kick currasows for goodness sake! The ABQ BioPark consists of a zoo, aquarium, botanic garden and a recreational area called Tingley Beach. All are nice, well funded facilities. They're well funded because of the Society (my place). We raise moola for the BioPark. And do a good job, I must say.

Monday I'll go on the walkthrough for River of Lights and take pics while the others strategize. It's nice to have the whole park lit up and EMPTY so I can take some sweet shots! Hmm, I've never said 'sweet' before. Wonder what that means? I've attached a pic of one of our newest light sculptures - the toy tyrannosaurus. Of course, before my magazine is published with the news, the Journal (via the BioPark admins) get my photos and scoops the story :( The sculpture I'm most proud of was my idea, and my design - a stained-glass tortoise. The guys who built it are skilled, but I won't let them forget it was my idea :) I have a review coming up! Come to think of it, the sub and the glowing butterflies were my idea too. Hmm.... Oh and the other pic is of me meeting our new baby snow leopard, Bhutan.

That reminds me, visit snowleopard.org! The man heading that up is amazing and has awesome stories about trying to track, record and preserve the snow leopards. The way the organization approaches the villages (who kill the leopards) is great - they help improve peoples lives and make them more self sustaining, safe and healthy in exchange for leaving the leopards alone. They teach them how to vaccinate, how to sell their wool in marketable products, keep predators away, and so on. Many of the things they do remind me of mission efforts. They always use local people to maintain programs out there instead of trying to force western culture down peoples throats. Very interesting.
