Aria is a blessing in ways I couldn't have imagined. Every parent knows what I mean, and non-parents can guess if they're insightful, I suppose. She flipped our priorities upside down. I mean, I was always dedicated to creating a stable, loving home for her, even before she was born. It's not that kind of priority. It's the dedication, provision, sacrifice and love that you just don't understand until the need arises. And it's not just about us and Aria. It's about us and God. It truly gives hope in those times that I wonder if He cares. How can he not? Our relationship with our daughter is an obvious reflection and echo of the relationship our Creator has with His children. Of course I've talked about all of this in classes and small groups and night-time chats with my parents, but the depth of experience is so much more than the intellectual outline. And so I am dedicated to teaching Aria to savor every moment of her life. To make the most of every opportunity. To love always and to forgive as often. The clean slate of her little life is a reminder that my slate is wiped clean every day. I don't have to hang on to old hurts, and I can always experience renewal (Romans 12:1-2). |
