The short version of the story: On the 15th and 16th of April, from about 10PM to 8AM both nights, Sarah was up with contractions accompanied by extreme pain and vomiting. Not knowing what was normal, and with the nurse hot-line advising she wait it out, she didn't go to the doctor until Monday morning (the 17th). Once there, the doctors did a few tests and quickly realized she had HELLP syndrome, which is serious and potentially deadly (for more info look here ). If HELLP is not too far along they will try to induce labor, but will perform a c-section if blood platelets were too low. Sarah's case was very serious. After a few hours of waiting, we signed a lot of scary papers, sarah was placed on a bed and rolled into the Labor & Delivery surgical room. Since Sarah was going under general anesthesia I could not come in. So I sat outside of those doors and waited... Aria Dana Johnson was born at 7:58 PM Monday, April 17th, 2006. Aria was examined in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit while I watched in awe, and I then escorted family in to visit her. Sarah was rolled into the recovery room to wake up. She visited with a few people (under the influence of heavy drugs), and was rolled in, on her bed, to see her baby before going to rest. A cross-eyed mom and a cross-eyed baby met, and all too shortly parted. So Sarah had a near-death experience and Aria was born 1 month early, but after all is said and done, we were washed in God's blessings; His protection, strength, courage, peace, and love. Thank all of you so much for your immediate response in prayer when the call was put out, and for the continuing support and prayer you offer. Sarah was discharged Friday evening, and Aria is still in the hospital but doing so well. She grows stronger every day, and the nurses can't keep track of her flailing limbs and grabby little hands. Her sweet little voice already sings an aria to the God who delivered both her and her mother from danger. We love you guys! |
