In good writing, words become one with things.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The people who influence us most are not those who buttonhole us and talk to us, but those who live their lives like the stars in heaven and the lilies in the field, perfectly simply and unaffectedly. Those are the lives that mould us. ~Oswald Chambers

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

OK, I am mightily annoyed by the fact that everyone over the age of 30 says "Eh?" when we tell them Aria's name. (after some research I see that's because the name has been rarely used until after 1990).

"Ar-what?"

"What are you gonna call her, Ria?"

"What kind of word is that?"

"Is that an 'ethnic' name?"

"Give her a name like [insert your favorite name here] so the kids won't tease her"

So here you go:

Aria is Italian <- Latin <- Greek.

It's pronounced "AH-ree-uh".

We will call her "Ari" for short. Pronounced "AH-ree".

It's meaning:

  1. A solo vocal piece with instrumental accompaniment, as in an opera.
  2. An air; a melody.
  3. An elaborate song for solo voice

The name dictionary says this:

The girl's name Aria is of Italian and Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "lioness." In music, arias are solos performed by the leading characters in an opera.

And next time I hear "What kind of name is that?" I will shake my head, then I will refer the offender to this website. Thank you.
