Rothfuss
So I read this book a while back... In the Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. Stinking story made me cry. Another one of my silly fantasy books. I think I like fantasy because it is entertaining, stretches my imagination, usually contains only small amounts of sappy romance, and typically contain lots of sword-play. Anyway, I occasionally come across an author that slaps me in the face and tweaks my heart strings one way or another. Depending on the slap and the strings I either promptly discard the book, shudder, spend a few days depressed, and move on, OR I become obsessed and read every book the guy (or gal) ever wrote as fast as possible.
I was reading Mr. Rothfuss('s?) blog the other day. Like many fantasy authors, he's funny, geeky, and fairly worldly. So I can't really post links to his blog without warning there are some swear words. And I'm only linking to his blog so he doesn't get mad when I post this picture:
I strongly suggest you click it. Notice:
- The bull whip
- The Dungeons & Dragons manual
- The Aerobie package
- The aviator sunglasses
This totally could have been me. How similar we geeky kids are! It's just a matter of degrees.
As a side note and parting gift: Geekiness never goes away.
Here is Rothfuss now: (And if you don't know who Joss Whedon is, you're not a modern geek.)
